August 2025 Release Notes

We’ve packed this release with exciting new features and improvements. Here are the highlights:

🎓 New: Schoolbox Discussions & Learning Moments

The feature you’ve been waiting for! Complete native support for Schoolbox Discussions is finally here.

Schoolbox Discussions in action

Parents, students and staff can now:

• Engage with discussions and learning moments directly in the app
• React to posts with common emojis
• Easily find GIFs to share in discussions and posts (when enabled by your school)

Previously, we only supported posting and viewing learning moments natively in the app. When you wanted to comment or engage with discussions, an authenticated webview would open to the web version of Schoolbox. We’re excited to announce that the full discussion experience is now completely native to the app!

🎯 Upgraded: Schoolbox Badges & Awards

• Added support for viewing evidence and reasoning associated with an achievement
• Goal icons are now greyed out until they’re achieved
• Refreshed the design of the awards detail page to be more modern and consistent with the rest of the app

📚 Upgraded: Schoolbox Assessments

We’ve completely redesigned the assessment experience to make it more intuitive and powerful.

New assessment interface

Enhanced rubrics view

What’s new:

• Redesigned assessment interface that’s easier to navigate
• Contextual breadcrumbs so you know which course and units an assessment belongs to
• Enhanced rubrics view with richer feedback data, and summary calculations. Selecting a criterion will also launch an improved detail view
• More relevant information at a glance — Grading & Rubrics are now prioritised to the top of the page as they’re usually the most relevant, with task descriptions, resources, submissions, draft submissions and more weighed to the bottom of the page.
• Improved submission interface — students can now create submissions directly from the assessment page, with multiple submission methods supported, including text-based submissions and task checklists.
  • Yes, students can self-mark their work as complete/incomplete from the app, if enabled for the viewing Schoolbox assessment!
• Enhanced feedback visibility — more feedback is now visible at a glance without needing to expand detail sheets

📌 New: Pinned Posts & Priority Content

Pinned posts are here! You can now:

• Control pinned posts by topic for targeted visibility
• Posts appear at the top of inbox feeds based on your configuration
• Use priority posts without triggering emails or bypassing notification preferences

This solves the common need for pinned content without the side effects of standard priority posts .

📅 Overhauled: Calendar Experience

We’ve significantly improved the calendar to make scheduling clearer and more intuitive.

Multi-day events just got better with clear start and end dates — no more confusion about event duration

Enhanced views and navigation:

• Better weekly preview and visual hierarchy
• We’ve made a few refinements to our parent teacher interview experience, these will apply regardless of what parent teacher interview integration your school is using, e.g. (TASS Interviews)

• Previously we announced support for uniform banner alerts for the current day. We now also surface them in the mini-calendar.

Better platform integration:

• Clipboard sessions now appear with richer session information in the preview
• Schoolbox due work appears in its own dedicated section for better organisation

For Synergetic users:

• Substitute teacher indicators — teacher names are highlighted when there’s a substitute

🎯 New: User Profile Actions & Action Collections

We’ve introduced powerful new customisation options that let schools create contextual actions throughout the app:

• User profile actions — Add custom actions directly to user profile pages (e.g. launch Schoolbox remote services apps with authentication and contextual user details)
  • We now support authenticating via remote services to embed remote-service-compatible apps
  • We’ve also added support for authenticating with third-party integrations that use Schoolbox as an OIDC OAuth identity provider using the app’s existing logged-in Schoolbox identity

• Action collections — Create beautiful grouped actions on the home screen; tap to reveal a curated list of related actions
• Contextual deep-linking — Actions automatically include current and viewing user context for seamless navigation to various modules and pages
• Flexible integration — Actions can open web pages, launch app views, or connect to third-party platforms with various authentication methods

⚡ Performance & Experience Improvements

Everyone benefits from these across-the-board improvements:

• Significantly faster performance especially on older Android devices
• Improved notifications with faster websocket streaming
• Updated APIs for better reliability and performance

🎨 Additional Improvements

Branding & Customisation

• Improved support for custom fonts, to allow for more branding options for some schools.

Improved account-switching support

• We’ve made improvements to the account switcher; it should be snappier and work better on poor network connections. This’ll be particularly appreciated by staff who are also parents!

Rich & Native Push Notification Settings are now available on all mobile platforms.
